The north Eastern Telecom Task Force has the distinction of being responsible
for development of telecom services in North East. India's North East is a land
of majestic mountains, crowned with peaks of sapphire blue and of ambrosial
water in all its brooks and pools. It the land of lovely woods and trees , of
clustering fruits and grooves dense with trees and so
unds of silence. North East
comprises of seven states -- Arunachal Pradesh lies on the North Eastern tip ,
while Assam , Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur , Nagaland lies in the
southern portion. The torrential ''Brahmaputra River" (classified in Hindu
cosmology as the only male river) flows right through this region scattering its
rich alluvial deposits along its banks.North -Eastern region covers an area of
2.5 lakh sq km. with a population of 3 crores. The area is strategically
important as it is bordering China on the north , Myanmar on the east and
Bangladesh on the west.
Development of telecommunication in this region is a formidable task. The North Eastern Region inspite of being potent with vat spectrum of possibilities could not keep pace with the economic and industrial development efforts elsewhere in the co untry. Apart from communication bottleneck and perennial floods, the whole NE is under the grip of insurgency. Realising this the North East Telecom Task Force was formed in 1983 headed by an officer of the level of SAG
Despite of all odds, during last 20 years NETF has undertaken many transmission schemes to link state capital and district head quarters of the region to the national and international network by digital MW, OFC and satellite communication .
Apart from transmission systems NETF takes up switching installations in North Eastern States.
